Open Submissions: Making Waves

Submission Period: January 1st - April 30th, 2024
Theme: Feral Space

Writers and artists are encouraged to explore the wild and transformative aspects of untouched spaces, from the natural world to the depths of human experience.

While we focus on poetry, we also accept visual art and short pieces of non-fiction (essays and memoirs) and fiction (flash, micro, and short stories).

We will consider speculative fiction.

Sequential art should be submitted under the “visual art” category.

  • Electronic submissions can be made through WavesReview.Submittable.com

  • There is a $3 per attachment fee for electronic submissions of creative writing

  • There is no fee for visual art submissions

  • USPS-mailed submissions to Making Waves c/o LACA, 107. S. Harrison St., Ludington, MI 49431

  • There are no fees for USPS posted submissions

The editorial board is made up of Editor-in-Chief Nicole Birkett, Visual Arts Editor Linda Sandow, Associate Editor Kathlene Barrett, and Assistant Editors Janice Zerfas and Josh Berliner.

Guest Editors

Making Waves hopes to have at least one high school student participating as a guest editor each issue.

To apply for a position as a guest editor, please email MakingWavesReview@gmail.com with your name, contact information, availability, and any relevant past experience and/or area(s) of interest (e.g. poetry, micro fiction, essays, etc.).

Requests for Proposals (RFPs)

Ludington Writers occasionally hosts workshops and retreats. Workshops are run by published authors from outside of the Ludington area. Special consideration for the residencies are given to graduate students finishing a degree in creative writing. During this short summer residency, authors typically lead a workshop (requiring registration) and formal presentation (open to the public).

In response to COVID-19 restrictions on public gatherings, and in the interest of continuing our support of writers, we would like to support virtual live literary events.
